Bressanone, one town with many facets

Residence Nives - Brixen entdecken

Situated in the Eisacktal valley, the town of Bressanone/Brixen is more than 1,000 years old, but is surprisingly young at heart.

Bressanone is the oldest town in Tyrol and is a bridge between the Alpine and Mediterranean worlds. Its borderland charm has attracted notable visitors for centuries, from Mozart to today’s celebrities. The cathedral’s iconic twin steeples tower over the old town’s colourful patchwork of houses. The frescoed cloister of Bressanone is regarded as one of South Tyrol’s leading cultural sights, and the Hofburg Bishop’s Palace with the Diocesan and Crib Museum is just around the corner. But within the historical town walls, past glories share the stage with contemporary pleasures. Expect interesting events, a vibrant cultural scene and a refreshing touch of modern architecture.

Did you know that the Eisacktal valley is renowned for its award-winning white wines? Have a taste of aromatic Kerner...

Bressanone lies in Italy’s northernmost wine-growing area. The type of soil and Alpine-Mediterranean climate here are ideal for growing grape varieties such as Sylvaner, Gewürztraminer and Kerner. From these, innovative winegrowers such as the Neustift Abbey winery and the Eisacktaler Winery produce excellent, award-winning white wines. So, why not take advantage of your holiday to sample them? There are a number of wine bars and restaurants in Bressanone where you can taste selected local wines. Alternatively, you can participate in one of the main events and guided tours organised at local vineyards, wineries and more to accompany a fine glass with interesting facts and information.

Nice to meet you!
